Serengeti Golf Estate

Trench Architecture:
Embarking on its most ambitious

residential alteration and addition project yet

This week at Trench Architecture, we are sinking our teeth into our latest project: a home renovation for a client in the upmarket Serengeti Golf Estate. This project marks a significant milestone for us, as we diverge from our bread-and-butter work of designing fuel stations and allow our creativity to flourish.

Our clients, a young affluent couple with a keen eye for design, have entrusted us with transforming their new house into a home that reflects their unique tastes and lifestyle. We began the process with them sharing their dreams for the home with us, and we are now getting down to the nitty-gritty of turning these dreams into a creative reality.

Their requests are all as unique as they are:

  • A new walk-in cupboard for an impressive handbag collection
  • A water feature that flows into a lower-deck pool with a view of the golf course
  • Relocating the existing Jacuzzi
  • Designing an entertainment area where they can, amongst other things, play poker with friends

This project is not without its challenges, however. The Homeowners’ Association has strict architectural guidelines that we must adhere to. Furthermore, the existing structure must be respected so that any additions blend seamlessly with the original design. This requires us to strike a delicate balance between honouring the original design and allowing the new owners to put their personal touch on the building.

With an estimated cost between R3 million and R4 million, this project is the largest residential alteration and addition we have undertaken to date. It will involve extensive investigative work, particularly in sourcing and matching designer door handles, fixtures, window glazing, and light fittings to ensure the additions blend seamlessly with the existing structure.

Moreover, the house has an existing home automation system that we will need to integrate with the new additions, adding another layer of technical complexity to the project.

Despite these challenges, we are looking forward to the journey. Stay tuned for updates on this exciting project.
